The Golf Club - Barassie Links
In the heart of Ayrshire, the rich legacy of Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club begins. As chronicled in the Jubilee Book, Kilmarnock men were avid golfers, often traveling to Troon in the 1870s and 1880s. However, with the advent of the first car in Europe still a year away, the lengthy journey to Troon and Gailes became a hindrance for the dedicated golfers of Kilmarnock.
In response to this challenge, fourteen determined men convened at the George Hotel in 1887. It was here that they laid the foundation for the Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club, initially establishing a nine-hole course in Kilmarnock. By 1894, the growing membership and desire for a more expansive course led them to secure new land at Barassie, adjacent to the railway lines, ensuring easy access for members via train.
The film captures the essence of Kilmarnock Barassie, showcasing its evolution from a modest nine-hole course to a renowned golfing destination. The verdant fairways and meticulously maintained greens reflect the club’s dedication to providing an exceptional golfing experience.
As viewers journey through the film, they witness the seamless blend of tradition and modernity that defines Barassie Links. Each hole tells a story of the club’s storied past, from its origins in the late 19th century to its present status as a beloved golf haven.
Barassie Links isn’t just a place to play golf; it’s a testament to the passion and determination of its founders, a place where history and the love of the game come together to create an unforgettable experience.
