Links to the Seaside sample itinerary
Links golf. The seaside venues that perhaps define Scottish golf. A ‘links’ is the oldest style of golf course, first developed in Scotland. The word, ‘links’, actually comes via the Scots language from the Old English word hlinc: “rising ground, ridge” and refers to an area of coastal sand dunes and sometimes to open parkland.
Have you ever thought about taking a tour of the links courses in Scotland? Or perhaps even just parts of it? Well, let us break it down into some mini tours and give you a sample of what to expect. Lets get things started over on the west coast, specifically in the Ayrshire region.
Day 1
Check in at Dundonald Links, their new lodge accommodation is incredible. Afternoon tee time at Dundonald Links home to the 2017 Scottish Open. Have a BBQ in the evening at your lodge and enjoy some putting games on your own private putting green.
Day 2
Morning tee time at Western Gailes which is one of Scotland’s finest links courses. Fancy another 18 or just 9? Well why not head to Barassie Links which is just a 5 minute drive away. They have a 9 hole and 18 hole course which is links heaven. After golf head into Troon for some dinner at Lido, a cool vibrant spot with great food!
Day 3
Tee time at The Birthplace of The Open - Prestwick Golf Club or if you fancy a real challenge swap for Royal Troon. or why not both?
Championship Links golf at its very finest! Head to The Red Lion Inn in Prestwick for some post round drinks and food (It’s where The Open was conceived)
Day 4
Tee time at Gailes Links which is 3 Minutes from your lodgings. A wonderful inland links thats hosted Open qualifying in the past.
The west coast has a very unique 16km stretch of golfing coastline featuring 11 links courses sitting back to back including the likes of Prestwick and Royal Troon. if you are looking great value Golf, try Prestwick St Nicholas, Irvine Bogside and West Kilbride which offer amazing links golf experiences.
